dog & bull

Original essay

"To escape fear, you have to go through it, not around." — Richie Norton

A few days ago, on my way to the gym, I saw a dog barking and provoking a bull, causing it to run amok. The dog didn't shy away from fear; instead, it charged straight at it, refusing to be intimidated by the bull's size. Surprisingly, the bull became the one being chased down. In this narrative, the bull symbolizes our fears, and the lesson here is that avoidance doesn't conquer it.

Mike Tyson said, "Fear is the greatest obstacle to learning. But fear is your best friend. If you learn to control it, you let it work for you. If you don't learn to control it, it'll destroy you and everything around you."

Just as a muscle strengthens through resistance, so does our courage through facing fears.

Remember Winston Churchill's words: "Fear is a reaction. Courage is a decision."

Our true strength emerges, not when we avoid fear, but when we face it head-on. Courage isn't automatic; it's a decision we make in the face of fear's challenges.

Next time fear knocks, remember Norton's call to go through it and Tyson's reminder to master it. Until then, embrace the challenge, stay curious, and above all, stay fearless.
